Cannabis guide

Your complete guide to cannabis in Valencia — how the members-only social clubs work, how to join, and everything else worth knowing before you go.

What's in Valencia

Valencia has no cannabis shops, coffeeshops or dispensaries — nowhere in the province, and nowhere in Spain, is cannabis sold over a counter. What Valencia does have is a real, established network of cannabis social clubs: private, non-profit associations. Most of them are concentrated in and around Valencia, Gandia and Quesa. They range from small, quiet members' lounges to larger, better-known associations, and each sets its own character and house rules.

How the clubs work

A cannabis social club is not a shop — it is an association you join as a member. You must be an adult of 18 or over with valid photo ID; you register in advance (traditionally through an existing member's introduction, or today through an introduction service), and consumption happens only inside the club's own private premises. There are no walk-ins and no public sale: cannabis never leaves the association, so there is no "buying" in the retail sense, only membership and shared, on-site consumption. Buying weed from a street dealer, by contrast, is illegal, unregulated and exactly what the club model exists to help visitors avoid.
